FORMER PERU WOMAN DIES

Mrs. Joseph C. Dearborn Passes Away at Her Home in New Hampshire

Mrs. Millie J. McKenney received last week the sad message telling of the death on Thursday, May 1, of her only sister, Mrs. Joseph C. Dearborn, at their home in Deerfield, N.H.

Mrs. Dearborn will be remembered in this community as Mary Evelyn Pollard. She was born July 17, 1854, at Kalamazoo, Mich., and was aged 74 years, nine months and fourteen days at the time of her death. She came to Nebraska with her parents in April, 1868, and attended school at Peru until her marriage.

She was married to Joseph C. Dearborn, on November 14, 1875. Mr. Dearborn had been a resident of this place for several years, but upon their marriage they went at once to New Hampshire, which has since been their home. She came back to Peru when her father, Samuel Pollard died in 1881.

Mrs. Dearborn is survived by her aged husband, and a daughter, Miss Grace Dearborn, who is at home, a sister, Mrs. Millie McKenney of Peru, and two nieces, the daughters of Mrs. McKenney.

S.J. Pollard

Samuel Josiah Pollard was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, June 6, 1857, died at his home near North Branch, Kansas, January 27, 1913, at 10:15 p.m. The funeral services were conducted from Maple Grove church, by L.L. Craven and Rev. Griffin, of North Branch, Kansas, on January 29.

The subject of this sketch was the son of Samuel and Mary Jane Pollard who have preceeded him to the Better Land, and who were of the Quaker religion. On October 7, 1885, he was married to Miss Mary E. Hutchison, at Auburn, Nebr. To this union were born eight children, all of whom are living as follows:—Maybell, William, Grace, Clyde, Murle, Loyd, Simeon and Verna. These beside the wife and mother, and two sisters, Mrs. Eva Dearborn, of Deerfield, New Hampshire, and Mrs Millie McKinney, of Peru, Nebr remain to mourn his death.

Two daughters who were at Wray, Colorado, reached home but eleven hours before his death. Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Mackie, of Rokeby, Nebr., Mr and Mrs. Rob't Mackie and Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Mackie, of Bostwick attended the funeral. Mrs. Sarah Hutchison, of Hardy, came but arrived too late for the funeral services. A number of beautiful flowers were sent by sorrowing friends among which were those from friends at his old home in Peru, and from Miss Grace Pollard's pupils and fellow teachers of the Wray, Colorado, schools.

The many friends of the family in Guide Rock and vicinity join with the Signal in extending sympathy to the bereaved.
