Charged With Selling Water AS Whisky.
Thomas Firth (29), of
no fixed abode, was remanded for eight days at Darlington yesterday
charged with false pretences by selling coloured water as whisky and
rum.
It was alleged that
Firth approached Cecil Hayllar, of Barron-street, in the Market-place,
and asked him if he wanted to purchase a bottle of White Label whisky
and a bottle of Jamaica rum. Hayllar gave him 13s 6d for the two
bottles, which, when opened, were found to contain coloured water.
